We are moving the Fishing for Plastic support boat Nomad up the coast and out of Florida for the 2021 hurricane season. Seemed appropriate to stop and check beaches along the way. We have been anchored behind Cumberland Island National Seashore on the coast of Georgia for the past few days and got into action cleaning over 5 miles of beautiful beach. Total haul was in excess of 135 lbs of beach plastic! Over 40 balloons and hundreds of feet of polypropylene line were removed from the Cumberland Island beaches which are valuable Loggerhead turtle nesting sites.

Miles of pristine beaches in Georgia

but plastic waste still floats in and lodges in the dunes. This plastic will not be bothering nesting turtles this season.
